Curse of the blogger's block

Hello there. A few of you have asked where I've been, why I've not been posting TFIF or any recipes of late. Well.... Eve...

Hello there.

A few of you have asked where I've been, why I've not been posting TFIF or any recipes of late.

Well....

Every day, I open up a brand new blank post page, write three sentences, have a fit, curse at my screen a little bit and close it down.

An hour later, I'll start it up again, have a little read, realise that everything I write sucks and a bored monkey slapping it's knob on a keyboard could write better than I ever could.

So that's where I am right now.  I have the blasted curse of bloggers block.  It sucks and I'm grumpy.  This is my draft folder right now.  Look at that.  21 unfinished posts.

So I can't blame it on a lack of cooking, because I've been doing loads.  I can't blame it on being busy because I always am and it's never stopped me before.  I can't even really blame it on a lack of ideas, I just have no SOLID ideas.  My brain is fizzing over with little sprouts that never take root.  It doesn't help that most of them are weird anyway.

I'm starting to feel like there must be some magic formula around that makes bloggers able to post 3 times a week, cause I can't.

So here we go, I open it out to you.

Help a lady out.  Throw me some ideas for helping me get out of this rut?  Things you used to get out of your own if you have had one, or an idea, prompt or anything?

Post in the comments or send me en email.   Or don't.  It's up to you, but I'll really like you if you do.

I might even make you cake.

A big fecking cake.

With a sparkler on it.

  3. Oh no, the dreaded block. I was hit with it last week but am back writing again now. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it: It just descends from nowhere, then disappears just as quickly.
I hope you're back writing again soon as some of the titles on your list sound interesting. However, a lot of them look quite in-depth. Could it be that when you see them all there in one place they are overcrowding your thoughts and making it difficult to focus?
It's a bit radical, but maybe keep a note of them in a separate file as subjects to return to at a later date, delete the drafts and start afresh, or make a list of them, start at the top, dealing with one at a time, and work your way down, crossing off each one as you finish the blog entry.
Hope some or all of this helps.

    1. You're right, I get an idea about what I want to write about and then lose focus half way through because I'm reading about something else and I lose the fire of my own interest and wonder how anyone else could find it interesting if I don't!! Thanks for the advice, I shall take an hour to look through, that's really helpful, thankyou!

  5. I find that blocks are caused by the ridiculous amount of pressure and perfection I put upon myself. When I feel like I HAVE TO post, rather than I WANT TO. So allow yourself to just have fun. Insert gifs... that always causes a laugh and makes me wanna keep going.

In fact let's just communicate with emoticons and animated gifs, screw writing!

Also the block could be something that is on your mind that is more important. Next step is identify such thing and stomp it to bits and make it your bitch. DIE problem DIE!

Lastly I start to question my blog, what I am doing with my life and getting all existential and shit... just enjoy life and tell that voice to bugger off. (I've been watching a lot of BBC and shit.).

But please do keep going, I am a BIG fan of your work and you make me laugh really hard.

I wanna make people squirt beer out their nose too! LOL! Until again- get on the horse and ride!

    1. You are so right, I do the same thing with the pressure sometimes, it creeps up very quickly and takes the joy out of writing! It's almost like you wrote down my entire thought process!

  7. Oh I feel your pain, I have been there, seen it and done it! I post twice a week but am seriously considering dropping it to once a week, its a lot of pressure to put myself under. I honestly don't understand how some bloggers post 3 or 4 times a week!!! I am guessing they don't have jobs because they have rich partners so they can spend the time dancing around the kitchen like mini Delia Smith's. Sometimes its the writing I struggle with the most, its boring if I am honest. Try a nice round up post (must admit to doing a few of them lately myself!) I promise myself rewards if I get a post scheduled, like a new book or iTunes download. Bribery is perfectly acceptable in these circumstances!
